Phoenix was the fastest-growing city in the U.S. between 2010 and 2020 as it added 163,000 more residents, according to data released in August by the Census Bureau. Growth across the Phoenix metro area drove up Maricopa County’s population by 15.8%. According to a study conducted by the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia, Arizona’s population is projected to expand by 26.1% between 2020 and 2040 – an increase of 1,897,585 people. By 2030, Arizona is expected to reach a total population of 8,284,681 people.
